Car Ports
A limited number of car ports are available to residents for a modest rental.
Cleaning Services
The Assisted Living Centre for frail and semi-frail residents is serviced and cleaned daily. Woodville and Espin units are serviced and cleaned once a week at a time convenient to residents. Residents themselves are responsible for cleaning and servicing the other living units.
Dining Room and Meals
All meals at Brookshaw are freshly prepared on the premises to provide a varied and nutritional diet. We cater for special diets. It is a requirement that all residents have their lunch (their main meal) each day in the main dining room. Breakfast and supper are also available, but optional.
Meal times in the dining room are as follows:
- 08:00 Breakfast
- 13:00 Lunch
- 17:30 Supper
Residents may invite guests to meals at an additional cost, provided that arrangements are made with the caterers well in advance.
DStv
MultiChoice offers a special package, the Brookshaw Bouquet, to Brookshaw residents at preferential rates.
Entertainment and Sport
Brookshaw’s Entertainment programme includes a wide range of activities: from knitting groups, card-playing, board games, exercises and a weekly movie.
Groups from the local schools and Rhodes University often pop in to entertain our residents.
Gardens
The Home prides itself on its beautiful gardens. Residents are encouraged to assist in the maintenance and upkeep of the gardens.
Laundry
The Home has an on-site laundry service. The cost of laundry is inclusive for all residents in St Michael’s Assisted Living Centre. A charge is levied for laundry done for other residents. Residents who use their own washing machines pay an additional fee for water.
Library
A well-stocked library is available for residents to use free of charge.
Newspapers
A daily newspaper is available free in one of the Brookshaw lounges.
Personal Services
Residents are encouraged to make use of the services of a qualified hairdresser who visits Brookshaw regularly. Other services on offer at reasonable prices include nail clipping, pedicures, manicures, head massage and full body massage.
Religious Services
Residents are invited to attend any of the mid-week church services, which are conducted at various times in Woodville and St Michael’s Frail Care Centre.
Safety & Security
- All units are fitted with lockable gates and burglar bars.
- Emergency panic buttons linked directly to Hi-Tec Security, a local armed-response company, are placed at strategic locations on the premises.
- Electronic security access gates protect the entrances to Brookshaw Home.
- Residents in flats have call buttons that activate a distress signal to Hi-Tec, the local armed response company.
Shopping Town Trips
Shopping trips to Pepper Grove Shopping Centre are provided every Monday free. Brookshaw staff do grocery shopping for residents who are not able to do this themselves.
Tea/Coffee
Morning tea/coffee is available at 10:30 in Woodville and afternoon tea/coffee at 15:30. Residents are encouraged to enjoy this opportunity for a chat with fellow residents.
Visitors’ Accommodation
Friends and family wishing to visit are welcome to book the guest room which is available at reasonable rates.
